With the opening of the new metro station Villejuif - Gustave Roussy In the south of Paris, an architectural highlight has been created: a generously glazed station with a clear, open design that directs daylight 50 metres into the interior - and impresses in the dark with targeted lighting.
The station was designed by Dominique Perrault Architecture on behalf of the Société du Grand Paris as part of the Grand Paris Express project. The station serves as an important transport hub for the Île-de-France region that goes far beyond pure functionality. The station impresses with its monumental dimensions, clear geometric structure and sophisticated use of light and materials - it looks more like an underground public square than a classic transport infrastructure. Our lighting technology makes a significant contribution in this architectural context: it supports the spatial effect, provides orientation and sets specific accents.
Lighting solution with character: 02M in the Villejuif station - Gustave Roussy
For the metro station lighting Villejuif - Gustave Roussy a total of 466 luminaires from the 02M were used - 355 of them in the standard version and 111 with an integrated emergency lighting function. The design of the luminaire was particularly impressive: with its clear design language in a timeless style, the 02M blends harmoniously into the architectural design of the station and emphasises the high-quality character of the public space.
In addition to its design quality, the 02M also impressed with its technical features: the integrated LED driver eliminates the need for additional external components, making planning, installation and maintenance easier. The luminaire also fulfils the requirements of the emergency lighting standard EN 60598-2-22, which enables it to be used in safety-relevant areas such as railway platforms.
Thanks to the combination of daylight architecture and precisely placed artificial lighting, the station offers a bright, safe and comfortable environment at any time of day. The 02M luminaires not only help passengers find their way around, but also emphasise the architectural lines and materials.
The project Villejuif - Gustave Roussy is exemplary for modern lighting solutions in urban spaces - efficient, well thought-out and sophisticated in terms of design.
